A Lovely Evening Up River
We had a delightful evening hosted by Lisa, tucked away in the forest 22 miles up river. Wonderful meal (including country ham and fresh Angel biscuits), great conversation and an interesting discussion about our interesting book - "Salt: A World History" by Mark Kurlansky.
This is a thouroughly researched work that everyone was glad to have read. Each one of us learned new things about the world's history of which we were previously unaware. However, we did not come up with a rating for this book. Maybe we were too relaxed to give it much thought! I'm not sure, but I was also not sure what rating I would have given it. I felt it was a very worthy read, but this subject didn't lend itself to character and story development as so many other books do. Everyone struggled a bit with trying to picture the timeline of events as the author chose to break chapters down by culture instead of keeping events in historic order. We all found that, once we disregarded the exact date and only focused on the general aspect of the date (what century things occurred), the book flowed better and one was able to pay attention to the interesting tid-bits of knowledge and the recipes.
Lisa announced that she will not be able to continue with our book club on a regular basis which was a disappointment to us all. She did say that she may be able to join us from time to time on future reads, but found that she currently has too many things that need her attention. We will miss Lisa as one of our regulars and hope that she is able to participate with one of our selections soon.

"100th Book" Party
Hi Everyone,
We had a lovely - but breezy - time as we discussed our community read book "Unbroken". It was nice to have others join us for an always insightful discussion of the book, it's impact on us and what we have gained from reading this. Providing food for a larger group based on a book that was about starvation was a bit of a challenge as we didn't want to serve just rice and water. Hat's off to Lisa for her lovely tray of seaweed and goldfish crackers! Also enjoyable was making the poster featuring pictures of all the 100 books that have been read. It was great to remember which ones we really liked and which ones we didn't enjoy as much. Sharing this with our guests and finding out which books on our poster they have also read and enjoyed made for interesting discussion. It also reminded us of two books which were inadvertently left off our reading list! So, we found we've got a jump start on our second hundred books to read! It was great seeing everyone and learning and sharing. A lovely afternoon with special friends!

June Meeting at Lisa's
Hi everyone. Our June meeting will be held Wednesday night, June 6th, 6:30 pm (since she is up river and some of us have a longer drive to get there) at Lisa's home. Esther says she has our books available for pick-up. Lisa will have to let us all know how to get to her place up river. See you then!
Plans for 100th
We had an organizational meeting to make plans for our 100th celebration and here is what was decided:
The event will be held Saturday, May 5th, 2pm at the Fire Interpretive Center. We will arrive at noon to get things set up. Debbie will bring table cloths and will make up a book club brochure. Barbara will bring a cooler with ice. We will buy bottled water and non alcoholic beverages. Members are requested to bring a snack item - veggies, fruit, cookies, etc. Also bring paper plates, cups and napkins. Sorry, but I can't remember who volunteered to take care of the water, plates, cups and napkins. Maybe we will all bring what we have available. Please leave a comment to this post with additional info. We are expecting up to 30 people.
We will do introductions of everyone. Barbara will give a history of the book club. Book club members are requested to propose a question based on the book - these questions will be used to stimulate the conversation about the book.
We are also planning to do a poster-board presentation featuring covers/titles of all the 100 books we have read. The book list was divvied up among us as follows:
Barb - books 1-17
Debbie - books 18-33
Esther - books 34-50
Claudia - books 51-65
Gerry - books 66-80
Lisa - books 81-100
Some of these titles may be given to Chris - Esther will let Chris know what the plan is. Esther will make a title for the poster. Claudia will take the individual images and pin them to the bulletin/poster board. Since the meeting it was decided the the images should be approx 5" tall x 3" wide - NOTE - the bulletin board will be displayed in the "portrait" position instead of the "landscape" position. Also, Claudia will bring stickers/stamps such as star/heart. Each member can stamp a gold star/place a heart on their favorite books that we have read. Claudia will also make a sign for the bottom of the poster saying something like - go to www.WeReallyReadtheBook.blogspot.com for complete book list and rating.

One Hundred Books!!
One hundred books! That's how many books the "We Really Read the Book" book club in Entiat has read, from the time they first began, up to the current month's book choice. Since its formation in the late 1990s this diverse group of enthusiastic readers and friends have been sharing meals, conversation, laughter and life stories each and every month.
In honor of this centenary landmark, all readers from Entiat and surrounding communities are invited to share in our celebration. Readers are invited to pick up a copy of the 100th book choice, Unbroken - A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption, by Laura Hillenbrand at the Entiat Public Library or by request through North Central Regional Library.

We especially would like to invite readers of other book clubs, past members of the “We Really Read the Book” book club, and veterans and families of veterans of WWII who served during the time that the events in the book take place.
