Our planned September meeting was postponed when the Little Giant fire disrupted our lives; many members being evacuated and beyond hazardous air quality from such heavy smoke. We finally regrouped last week. Maureen hosted us with the most delicious Mom's Chicken! We welcomed new member Annie Hubka to our fold. Our book was "The Mermaid's Daughter" by Ann Claycomb, a modern-day version of the classic fairy tale, a dark tale of magic and love, with an updated twist at the end of the story. We discussed the fact that fables and fairy tales always have morals to live by or a lesson to learn. This story was complete with a magic element - a knife that keeps coming back, generation after generation. Can this mermaid break the ancient curse? How far will you go for love?
