Plans for 100th

We had an organizational meeting to make plans for our 100th celebration and here is what was decided:

The event will be held Saturday, May 5th, 2pm at the Fire Interpretive Center. We will arrive at noon to get things set up. Debbie will bring table cloths and will make up a book club brochure. Barbara will bring a cooler with ice. We will buy bottled water and non alcoholic beverages. Members are requested to bring a snack item - veggies, fruit, cookies, etc. Also bring paper plates, cups and napkins. Sorry, but I can't remember who volunteered to take care of the water, plates, cups and napkins. Maybe we will all bring what we have available. Please leave a comment to this post with additional info. We are expecting up to 30 people.

We will do introductions of everyone. Barbara will give a history of the book club. Book club members are requested to propose a question based on the book - these questions will be used to stimulate the conversation about the book.

We are also planning to do a poster-board presentation featuring covers/titles of all the 100 books we have read. The book list was divvied up among us as follows:
Barb - books 1-17
Debbie - books 18-33
Esther - books 34-50
Claudia - books 51-65
Gerry - books 66-80
Lisa - books 81-100
Some of these titles may be given to Chris - Esther will let Chris know what the plan is. Esther will make a title for the poster. Claudia will take the individual images and pin them to the bulletin/poster board. Since the meeting it was decided the the images should be approx 5" tall x 3" wide - NOTE - the bulletin board will be displayed in the "portrait" position instead of the "landscape" position. Also, Claudia will bring stickers/stamps such as star/heart. Each member can stamp a gold star/place a heart on their favorite books that we have read. Claudia will also make a sign for the bottom of the poster saying something like - go to www.WeReallyReadtheBook.blogspot.com for complete book list and rating.

One Hundred Books!!

One hundred books! That's how many books the "We Really Read the Book" book club in Entiat has read, from the time they first began, up to the current month's book choice. Since its formation in the late 1990s this diverse group of enthusiastic readers and friends have been sharing meals, conversation, laughter and life stories each and every month.
In honor of this centenary landmark, all readers from Entiat and surrounding communities are invited to share in our celebration. Readers are invited to pick up a copy of the 100th book choice, Unbroken - A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption, by Laura Hillenbrand at the Entiat Public Library or by request through North Central Regional Library.

On May 5, at 2:00 we will host an afternoon of snacks and beverages, along with a chance to share each other’s impressions of this book, and the topics it raises. The gathering is planned to be held at the Columbia Breaks Fire Interpretive Center in Entiat. We especially would like to invite readers of other book clubs, past members of the “We Really Read the Book” book club, and veterans and families of veterans of WWII who served during the time that the events in the book take place. March 7th at Debbie's home

Thank you, Nancy, for an enjoyable evening complete with hearts and flowers! And a special thanks to our chauffeur Charlie for meeting us and safely delivering us back to our vehicles. It just shows you that we are intrepid and won't let a little (!) ice stop us.

Our next hostess will be Debbie, and the meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 7th. Plan to arrive between 5:30 and 6pm. Esther will let us know when our read for this month comes in and is available for pick up. We will also be setting a date for a planning meeting for our community read 100th book this evening. Have a wonderful month and we'll all gather at Debbie's in March.

Meeting at Nancy's in February

Hi everyone,

Don't forget that our next book club meeting will be on February 6th at 5:30pm. We will be gathering at Nancy's home. It's always a delight to spend an evening there sharing our thoughts and enjoying a wonderful meal. Looking forward to seeing everyone then!

COUNTED AGAIN

I recounted our books. With Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, that was Book 97 and so we are on target. :)

Gerry and Marie, thank you for a lovely Christmas dinner. It's always enjoyable. Marie, you always put so much love and detail into your meals and are so gracious.

Our next meeting will be Monday, December 12th, 5:30pm at Gerry's home. Just a reminder that we will wrap gift books for local children in need, so bring gift books and wrapping materials. Also, we will have our secret book exchange. Looking forward to seeing you all at Gerry's.

We are getting close to 100!!

We are closely approaching the 100 books read mark! Now we just need to come up with a plan to celebrate!! And if my counting is correct, I think Barbara will be the person who will be choosing the hundredth book! It seems very appropriate, because, it was remembered that the whole reason this book club exists is thanks to Barbara's bringing the idea to fruition. What a happy coincidence! I also think that the month for this to happen is likely to be February. Please check my figuring, everyone!

Some ideas that were thought of for celebrating the event are:

Invite all past members of the We Really Read The Book

book club to join us.

Tell NCRL, and suggest a story in the newsletter.

Host somewhere a little larger than at one of our homes.

Invite spouses and partners - families too, I think.

And in addition, here's some ideas I will throw out:

Whatever book Barbara chooses, make it a

One Community book for the whole Entiat Valley.

See if we can get the author to either visit,

or to correspond with us somehow.

Celebrate with all who read as well.

Advertise with help from the Friends of the Entiat Public Library.

(These are just ideas from me, so let's just play with them and see if they sound like fun to you all or whether we should keep it simple!)

Thanks all for being such great guests at my house for the last dinner. I love that you are all game for not only reading such a diverse range of books, but for trying out my experimental cooking projects! It was interesting to read and discuss Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. The rating turned out to be a solid 5.27. I will experience Seattle in a whole new light, and hope to visit the Panama Hotel the next time I am there.

In regards to our next meeting, I spoke to Claudia today and Wednesday, November 9 at 5:30 at her house is good (unless she gets called to jury duty, for which she is on call) .
